Brass Classification, Features and Application

Brass - an alloy of copper and zinc - has the valuable properties of strength, no corrosion, low melting point and ductility.

Classification and features

Depending on the chemical composition, brass is divided into simple and sophisticated brass. Alloys of copper, zinc and small amounts impurities are called simple brass. Sophisticated brass contains some useful items. For example, aluminum increases the overall strength but reduces the ductility of the material. Manganese and lead to increase the ability of brass machined. Nickel increases the chemical resistance and wear resistance, and phosphorus increases hardness. Tin increases corrosion resistance, while increasing fragility. Silicon forms high casting characteristics of the resulting alloy. Iron gives brass rolling fine grain, and increase the fluidity and quality of critical parts in the casting process.

Brass is divided into single-phase and two-phase alloys. The content of zinc in the first group is 39%, and the second from 40% to 46%. Single-phase brass has high ductility and flexibility without significant deformation. The main method of production is by cold rolling. Biphasic brass has high durability, but a large amount of zinc reduces their flexibility. During processing, they require high temperature conditions. To improve the wear resistance of the material used hot annealing, it provides long-term operation without cracking.

According to the hardness, brass includes soft, semi-hard, hard and very hard brass alloys. This classification depends on the performance of pressure required for cold-formed metal.

Depending on the amount of zinc, there are red and yellow brass. The greater the percentage of zinc, the resulting alloy is yellower. Compared to copper, brass has higher strength, corrosion resistance and better casting properties.

Application

All kinds of brass rolling widely used in today's economy. They are made to sanitary ware and decorative items for interior decoration. In engineering, manufacture brass engine cooling systems, bushings and bearings. For instrument is condensing, brass can be made to manometric tubes, printing matrix sleeve chemical equipment. Brass alloys also are used to create modern weapons and military equipment.

Brass through the noble golden color has long been considered fake gold. Gorgeous sparkling brass plates, door handles, valves, taps and various decorative elements are brought into the interior of the elements with palatial luxury.
